Mondaecus

MONDAECUS (Multilingual Online Network for Diverse Academic Exchange and Collaborative Understanding in Scholarship) is an open digital platform developed by the University of Coimbra within the framework of the OPERAS-PLUS project. It supports collaborative academic translation practices by enabling multilingual teams to work together on the translation and contextualization of scholarly texts.

MONDAECUS is based on principles of Open Science and Multilingualism, offering transparency, traceability, and inclusiveness throughout the translation and review process.
Key features include:

  • A user-friendly interface for collaborative translation and revision.
  • Role-based access for contributors (translators, reviewers, moderators).
  • Versioning, commenting, and metadata enrichment.
  • Support for multilingual outputs aligned with FAIR and Diamond OA principles.

MONDAECUS is currently being used to translate EDCH Toolsuite materials, with positive feedback from participating colleagues. It is particularly valuable for publishers and editorial boards seeking to produce multilingual content and metadata, promoting bibliodiversity and accessibility.

The platform continues to evolve, with regular updates reflecting community feedback. A major new version is scheduled for release in October 2025, during the ATRIUM Hackathon on Multilingualism.
